For more than 150 years, Henschke has crafted some of Australia’s most celebrated wines, including legendary single-vineyard Shiraz and exceptional Riesling from the historic Eden Valley. Throughout the evening, Johann will share stories of six generations of family winemaking, the estate’s renowned vineyards, and the philosophy behind these remarkable wines. Johann grew up at the family’s winery in the Eden Valley, developing a natural curiosity for
science. He continues a family winemaking tradition, completing his Winemaking degree in
Adelaide in 2005, before completing his Masters degree in Viticulture in 2012 in Geisenheim,
Germany. While studying his Masters, he met his wife Angela Penalba de las Heras, who comes
from a family of winemaking in Spain, Torremilanos.
In 2013, Angela and Johann based themselves at Henschke, while Johann progressed through
the business, focussing on winemaking and viticulture alongside his parents Stephen and Prue.
In 2018, they suffered personal tragedy, and are now based in Madrid, Spain, and Johann
continues his work with Henschke from afar in the role of Business Development Manager.
